PM approves communication plan on international integration

NDO – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved a plan to enhance the communication of outstanding international integration events for the 2017-2020 periods.

From now to 2020, Vietnam will take on numerous international responsibilities such as hosting the APEC Year 2017, assuming the role of ASEAN Chair in 2020, nominating for the non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2020-2021 tenure.

In addition, the country will complete major international commitments, including commitments to join the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in 2018; as well as sign, ratify and implement many new-generation Free Trade Agreements (FTA).

Under the plan for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, the communicated overarching message of the APEC Year 2017 will be ‘featuring the image of a renovated, dynamic and potential Vietnam, creating positive contributions and becoming a new driving force for the region’s growth and connectivity as well as fostering in the Vietnamese people attributes of hospitality, harmony and affection’.

It is essential to enhance the communication of ASEAN Community with major milestones including the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the ASEAN’s establishment (August 8, 1967 – 2017) and the 22nd anniversary since Vietnam joining ASEAN (1995-2017); 25 years since Vietnam has joined ASEAN and the year that Vietnam will assume ASEAN Chair in 2020.

The communication of results in implementing ASEAN Community’s priorities, include ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and master plans for the three pillars of the Community, Agenda for ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and the third Phase of the Work Plan of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration (IAI) concerning the narrowing of the development gap.. Vietnam’s active participation in these implementations, as well as its cooperation, in these fields regarding Vietnam’s needs and has strengths that should be highlighted.

The relevant agencies should boost the expanding communication on ASEAN Economic Community among enterprises and people.

Communications on FTAs should focus on the specific contents as well as opportunities and challenges for Vietnamese enterprise from FTAs that the country has joined.

The active and proactive participation of Vietnam in the UN as a member of UN organisations including the UN Economic and Social Council in 2016-2018, the Executive Board of UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural for 2015-2019 will also be popularised.

The communication activities need to feature the country’s responsible participation in UN peacekeeping operations, contributing to promoting its position in international community.
