Various activities mark Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day

NDO - A wide range of activities were held across the country to mark the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers' Day (July 27, 1947 – 2017).

On July 26 and 27, the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) and related agencies presented 100 gifts, each worth VND500,000 and 20 houses, each worth VND50 million to policy beneficiary families and families living in difficult circumstances in Tho Xuan district and Quan Son district of Thanh Hoa province.

Earlier, the delegation of VRCS and Quang Tri provincial Red Cross Society, led by the VRCS’s President Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu offered flowers and incense at the Quang Tri ancient citadel, a memorial located on the Thach Han River's northern bank, the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery and the Road 9 National Martyrs' Cemetery. The delegation also visited and presented 50 families of war invalids, martyrs and policy beneficiary families in Dong Ha town, Quang Tri province. The delegations also paid a visit to Mai Vinh's family in the district of Dong Giang, Quang Tri province, who made many contributions in the resistance wars against French invaders, meanwhile they also donated VND50 million VND to the family to assist in repairing their house.

In addition, the VRCS co-ordinated with the Hanoi Red Cross Society and the Soc Son district’s Red Cross Society to provide free health check-ups and medicine to policy beneficiaries, families of war invalids, martyrs, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers in Soc Son district of outer Hanoi. The VRCS also held a range of meaningful activities in other localities in response to the Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day.

* On July 27, Vietnam Television Corporation – VTC - under Radio Voice of Vietnam organised a special television program "Sacred Mother Earth Thousand Years".

The programme featured revolutionary songs and touching stories shared by the family members of war martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for national construction and defence.

* On the same day, a ceremony was held in Ngoc Hoi, Kon Tum province to inaugurate a memorial monument commemorating heroic martyrs who died while fighting on the Truong Son battlefield. The VND15billion-construction covering on an area of 3,600 square meters is located in the Lec Village, Ngoc Hoi District’s Bo Y Ward in the central highland province of Kon Tum. It includes a memorial house, a bell house and other facilities.

Earlier, on the same day, a monument dedicated to heroic martyrs was also inaugurated in Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province.

On the occasion, the Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank) handed over nearly 500 houses to poor households and families of Agent Orange/dioxin victims; 500 breeding cows to poor households with disabilities and orphans in Kon Tum province; and supported over VND 63 billion to repair and upgrade Kon Tum Rehabilitation Hospital.

* On the occasion, some other provinces, such as Vinh Long, Ca Mau and Hung Yen, also organised activities to pay tribute to heroes, martyrs, injured and sick soldiers, and revolutionary contributors.
