NDO – The Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre launched a campaign to plant 10 million new trees by 2025 at a ceremony held in January 2.

The event saw the presence of Politburo member and Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Permanent Deputy PM spoke highly of the significant coordination between Ben Tre province and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Government Portal, contributing to Ben Tre being the first province in the country to launch a campaign in response to the PM’s call to plant one billion trees over the next five years.

On the occasion, the province received VND100 million (US$4,200) and VND23.8 billion (US$990 million) in cash donations from Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, and individuals and organisations respectively to support the implementation of its campaign.

After the launch ceremony, Ben Tre started planting trees on major roads, urban areas, and tourist spots in Binh Dai district.

On the same day, Permanent Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh and leaders of local authorities visited some sections of the coastal road in Ben Tre province and surveyed the Binh Tan ferry (Binh Dai district) on the coastal corridor route connecting it with Tien Giang province.
