NDO – The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) should focus on completing mechanisms and policies to improve the efficiency of State management regarding land and the enviroment.

The statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung while attending a conference in Hanoi on December 27 to review the natural resources and environmental sector’s performance in 2019 and set out goals for 2020.

Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung spoke highly of efforts made by the sector in mobilising resources to amend the Land Law and the Environment Law; proactively proposing solutions for strategies regarding how to cope with climate change and water resources, especially promoting the implementation of systematic decisions and strategies on response to the key issue of climate change.

The Deputy PM also urged the MoNRE to review strategies and plans related to natural resources and the environment as well as restructure all fields of production to adapt to climate change.

The ministry should closely monitor plans for mining, water and land projects to avoid wasting natural resources, he added.

He also underscored the need to enhance the inspection and examination process for the use of land and natural resources as well as strictly handle all violations of the law.

Deputy PM Dung urged the ministry to form projects as soon as possible to counter air pollution in major urban areas, particularly in Hanoi as well as promote international co-operation to effectively apply measures to respond to climate change and rising sea levels.

Also at the conference, the MoNRE officially launched the National Continous Operating Reference Station Network (Vngeonet).
