NDO - An action month for the environment was launched in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province on June 4 on the theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.

The event was jointly held by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, and Binh Dinh provincial People’s Committee as part of activities to observe World Environment Day (June 5).

Addressing the launch ceremony, MONRE Deputy Minister Vo Tuan Nhan said that the action month is focussed on breaking people’s habit of using plastic products and nylon bags in order to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution on the environment, wildlife, and human health.

Accordingly, State management agencies are urged to raise public awareness regarding the harmful effects of plastics and nylon, encouraging them to reject single-use plastic materials.

Businesses are called on to conduct research and produce environmentally-friendly products while taking measures to implement a process for collecting and treating waste.

The same day, a similar meeting was held in Hau Giang province in response to World Environment Day.
