NDO - At the invitation of Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is leading a high-ranking delegation of the Cambodian government to Hanoi, beginning an official visit to Vietnam from October 4-5.

His entourage includes Deputy PM and Minister of National Defence Tea Banh; Deputy PM and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn; Senior Minister in charge of border affairs Var Kimhong; Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak; Minister of Mines and Energy Suy Sem; Minister of Tourism Thong Khon; Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea; Minister attached to the Prime Minister Sry Thamarong; Minister attached to the Prime Minister Kao Kim Hourn; Minister attached to the Prime Minister Keo Baphnom; Secretary of State at the Ministry of Interior Sak Setha; Secretary of State at the Ministry of Economy and Finance Chou Vichith; Cambodian Chargé d'affaires to Vietnam Op Sophy; and many other officials.

Cambodian PM Hun Sen was born in 1952 in Kampong Cham province. He joined the revolution in April 1970 and joined the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) in August 1972. He holds a PhD in political science. His spouse is Bun Rany, president of the Cambodian Red Cross.

Between 1970-1975, Hun Sen joined the military and became platoon commander and later battalion commander. He was deputy commander cum chief of staff of the 21st Regiment from October 1975 to June 1977. In June 1977, he built revolutionary forces to fight against the Pol Pot regime.

He became a member of the Central Committee of the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation in charge of youth affairs in December 1978, member of the CPP Central Committee and Foreign Minister in January 1979 and Politburo member and Foreign Minister in May 1981.

Hun Sen assumed the chairmanship of the Council of Minister in January 1985. From 1991 to June 2015, he was Vice President of the CPP and Prime Minister of Cambodia and was awarded the Samdech title by King Norodom Sihanouk and later the Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo title by King Norodom Sihamoni. He has been President of the CPP and Prime Minister of Cambodia from June 2015 to the present.
