At the meeting, the top legislator made a brief on Vietnam’s socio-economic development over the past time, saying the country has reaped achievements across spheres, from economy to social, domestic and external affairs, especially in economic growth, international integration, and social welfare.

Ngan said her visit aims to further enhance cooperation between Vietnam and the EU as well as the EP, and deepen the traditional friendship and collaboration between Vietnam and Belgium and the Belgian parliament.

Talking about her meetings with leaders of the European Commission (EC), the EP and Belgium, she said the hosts committed to supporting the promotion of relations between Vietnam and the EU and Belgium, particularly the prioritisation of the signing and ratification of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) right at the beginning of the EP’s new tenure, she said.

Lauding efforts of the embassy and the mission, the chief legislator said the Party, State and National Assembly always create favourable conditions for Vietnamese representative offices abroad to operate, contributing to national construction, defence and development.

The top legislator applauded the Vietnamese community for maintaining traditional culture, especially organising Vietnamese language teaching classes, saying there should be a mechanism to support the work.

Ngan noted her hope that the community will continue to work as a bridge contributing to enhancing and consolidating the all-round cooperation and friendship between Vietnam and Belgium.
