NDO – The 11th edition of a Vietnam France conference of decentralized cooperation opened in Toulouse, France, on April 1, attracting the participation of representatives of 25 Vietnamese localities and 18 French localities as well as many associations, organisations and businesses of the two countries.

The conference is considered as an important meaningful event, not only tightening the cooperation relations between the two countries' localities, but also an inter-regional activity to implement the results of the Party General Secretary and President of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong's official visit to France in March 2018 and the French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe’s official visit to Vietnam in November 2018.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Mayor of Toulouse Jean-Claude Dardelet emphasised that this year’s conference would continue the cooperation between the two countries over the past 30 years. At the conference, the French side will share many experiences on sustainable development including anti-climate change, which is very important for localities in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Quoc Cuong and Vice Mayor of Toulouse Jean-Claude Dardelet visited the product of Vietnamese localities.

Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Cuong also stressed that the cooperation between localities of Vietnam and France has really become one of key pillars in the Vietnam-France strategic partnership, helping tighten the exchange, link, share and dialogue between the two countries, he added.

The two-day conference focused on discussing five thematic sessions: tangible and intangible culture; the role of localities in cooperation in education and health; climate resistance, warming and climate change; sustainable economy; and from urbanization to sustainable cities. These are currently the important fields in the cooperation between localities.

The conference also introduced French financial instruments to help the two countries' localities effectively access and use ODA funds to implement cooperation projects.

The conference also brings businesses of the two countries the opportunity to meet, display publications and promotional documents. In addition, a photo exhibition on Toulouse - Hanoi, and a ceremony to honour local couples with typical cooperation in Vietnam - France relations, and a programme on introducing Vietnamese cuisine in France.
