OECD wants Vietnam to join its Country Programme

NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue received Director of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)’s Global Relations Secretariat Andreas Schaal in Hanoi on April 1.

Schaal is on his visit to Vietnam to work with several relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies on building a multi-dimensional assessment for the host country.

At the meeting, Deputy PM Hue emphasised that the OECD multidimensional country review would be an important basis for the Government of Vietnam to consult to formulate strategic policies for the 10-year period of 2021-2030 and towards 2045.

Schaal informed that the multidimensional assessment will focus on helping Vietnam build institutions for investment, high technology, inclusive development and anti-corruption. In addition, OECD wants Vietnam to join the Country Programme that the organisation is deploying, in which there are concerned fields that Vietnam is focusing on, including developing tax policies, infrastructure development and human resources under advanced international standards.

Welcoming the OECD’s invitation, Deputy PM Hue assessed that its Country Programme is necessary for Vietnam, and is also a broader step of cooperation, but with continuing contents from the multidimensional review, helping Vietnam implement its ongoing policies towards OECD-oriented standards for institutional building, transformation of growth and restructuring its economic model.

Hue also proposed the OECD to supplement and support Vietnam to develop standards in the management of State-owned corporations, with the main subject is the newly-established Committee for Management of State Capital, while building institutions for market and funds related to start-up on the foundation of technology.
