NDO/VNA – Ho Chi Minh City hopes the Republic of Korea-based Samsung Group would open a research and development centre in the city to take advantage of its skilled human resources, said a local official.

Receiving General Director of the Samsung Electronics Vietnam Choi Joo-ho on March 14, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan congratulated Samsung on its production and business results in Vietnam, saying the development of Samsung has contributed to Vietnam-RoK relations.

Nhan affirmed that HCM City is willing to create favourable conditions for the company to expand investment and participate in the Saigon Hi-tech Park, and increase the number of local businesses joining Samsung’s supply chain.

He appreciated Samsung’s efforts to help improve the capacity of enterprises and train high-quality human resources for Vietnam and the city in particular, and hoped for continued assistance from the company.

Choi voiced his wish to continue receiving support from the city’s leaders and departments and sectors so that the company can reap more fruits in the coming time.

Sharing Samsung’s production and business results in Vietnam in 2018, he said that the HCM City-based factory contributed US$3 billion to Samsung Vietnam’s total export turnover of around US$60 billion.

Among 630 businesses in Vietnam joining the company’s supply chain, HCM City has 151 businesses, and the figure will increase to 171 in the time ahead, he said.

Samsung is coordinating with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade to carry out a consultation support programme to raise the capacity of Vietnamese enterprises, including eight from HCM City. This year, it will help train 120 consultants for Vietnam, of whom 60 live in the city, he added.
