NDO - Ho Chi Minh City wishes to foster its cooperation with the Czech Republic in the areas of education and the training of high quality human resources, said Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Pham Duc Hai.

The city official made the remarks on June 8, while receiving President of the Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport under the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus.

Hai emphasised that the relationship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic was established in the 1950's and has been nurtured and promoted through the regular exchanges of high-level delegations and the signing of a number of agreements in the fields of trade, investment and education.

He noted that the city wishes to receive experience from the Czech Republic on the building of high-tech infrastructure for a smart city, in addition to developing a system of high-quality universities and colleges.

The city also hopes to boost its coordination with Czech localities in art performances and cultural exchanges, Hai added.

Vaclav Klaus said that the Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport under the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic selected Vietnam as the only foreign country for its overseas visit this year, demonstrating the countries wish to further foster the relations between the Czech Republic and Vietnam.

He said that the two countries had a very active exchange of students in the past with a large number of Vietnamese officials studying in the Czech Republic, noting that the country wanted to strengthen its education cooperation with Vietnam and increase the exchange of students of both countries

Vacslav Klaus added that the Czech Republic intends to re-establish the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, which is expected to provide practical benefits for both sides.
