NDO - President Tran Dai Quang expressed his gratitude to Japan for providing official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam for the country’s socio-economic development over the past few years, while speaking highly of the role of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the field.

During the meeting with JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka in Tokyo on June 1, as part of his ongoing State visit to Japan, President Quang proposed that JICA continues working to increase Japan’s ODA for Vietnam with a focus on large-scale infrastructure projects and human resources training.

The State President also suggested that Japan supports Vietnam in implementing its industrialisation strategy within the Vietnam-Japan cooperation framework; as well as developing human resources for the industry sector; and building and conducting a project to reform the apparatus of the political system towards effective and efficient operation, and training managerial officials at all levels, especially at the strategic level.

He also asked for JICA’s cooperation in projects in industry, green agriculture, and high technology, as well as its support in searching for long-term solutions to cope with climate change.

For his part, Shinichi Kitaoka expressed his delight at the strong and practical growth of the Vietnam-Japan relations over the past 45 years and spoke highly of Vietnam’s effective coordination in implementing projects over the past few years.

The JICA President affirmed that the agency will continue its efforts to contribute to the growth of the Vietnam-Japan partnership, with a focus on enhancing added value in the industry sector, designing climate change response policies and a human resources training plan for Vietnam.
