NDO/VNA - Ho Chi Minh City supports foreign investment in finance-banking, insurance and tourism, especially from AIA Corporation, municipal People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong said.

At a reception in the city on August 24 for AIA President and CEO Mark Edward Tucker, Phong said the city aims to become a financial, commercial and science-technology hub in Southeast Asia, along with the Thu Thiem urban area as an economic and financial centre.

The city’s leaders have pledged to work with foreign businesses, he said, adding that Ho Chi Minh City is devising a scheme to build a smart city by 2025 to better serve people and firms.

Tucker said AIA is pouring nearly US$40 billion into Asia.

With over 100 years of experience in doing business in Asia, AIA sees the potential of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, he said.

The guest also expressed his wish to do long-term business in Ho Chi Minh City and suggested that technological advances and improved infrastructure is crucial for the city’s growth.
