NDO/VNA – A special envoy of Lao Party General Secretary Bounhang Volachith on January 29 handed over the leader’s letter of congratulations to newly elected Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

At their meeting in Hanoi, Sounthone Sayachak, head of the Lao Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations, said she is honoured to be sent to Vietnam to congratulate the Communist Party of Vietnam on the success of its recently concluded 12th National Congress – an important political event for the Vietnamese Party, army and people.

She also congratulated General Secretary Trong on the achievements the country has gained over the past 30 years of reform, and during the five-year implementation of the 11th National Party Congress’s resolution. She said she believes that Vietnam will soon become a modern industrialised nation.

The Lao official expressed her delight at the development of the Laos-Vietnam friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive co-operation, which has benefited both countries, and contributed to peace, stability, co-operation and development in the region and the world.

She thanked the Vietnamese Party, State and people for their support, affirming that Laos will do its utmost to, together with Vietnam, maintain and nurture the bilateral ties.

She also conveyed an invitation, on behalf of the leader of the Lao Party, to the Vietnamese Party chief and other high-level leaders to pay official visits to Laos in the near future.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, in turn, confirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State and people are delighted with the success of the 10th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

He congratulated Laos on its achievements, and said he believes that under the leadership of Party General Secretary Bounhang Volachith, the country will achieve even greater results and overcome the status of being an under-developed nation by 2020, and become a middle-income country by 2030.

He affirmed that the Vietnam-Laos special solidarity is an invaluable asset of both nations, as well as an important factor ensuring triumph for each country’s revolutionary cause.

Earlier, the Lao official was welcomed by her Vietnamese counterpart, Hoang Binh Quan. At their meeting, the two sides informed each other of the outcomes of their respective parties’ congresses, while exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern and measures to intensify the relations between the two commissions.
