NDO - National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong hosted a meeting on December 13 for outstanding members of the former young volunteer force who are gathering in Hanoi for a national congress of their association.

At the reception, Phong praised the contributions of former youth volunteers and other forces who worked hard and struggled for the cause of national independence, adding that despite the passage of time, the images of heroic youth volunteers still remains an important part of Vietnamese history.

She also commended the association of former youth volunteers for protecting the rights of its members and for continuing to make contributions to the country in the current age of development and international integration.

The parliamentary leader said she expects the association to further strengthen its organisation to suit this new era.

She also asked authorities at all levels to pay heed to former youth volunteers and educate younger generations on the revolutionary tradition of the force.

According to Vu Trong Kim, the association chairman, there are currently 650,000 former youth volunteers across the country, who served during defence wars, fulfilled international duties and took part in economic development movements after 1975.

The association’s sixth national congress takes place on December 13 and 14.
