NDO – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended a ceremony in Can Tho on April 6 to open five domestic air routes connecting Can Tho with Hai Phong, Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Nha Trang and Da Lat.

The five air routes are operated by the budget carrier Vietjet, making Vietjet the airline with the largest number of routes and flights to and from the Southwest city of Can Tho.

The five routes including Can Tho – Hai Phong, Can Tho – Vinh (Nghe An), Can Tho – Thanh Hoa, Can Tho – Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) and Can Tho – Da Lat (Lam Dong) will operate from April 26, 2019.

Addressing the ceremony, PM Phuc said that it was a good event, contributing to the development of the Southwest region, a land of huge potential but which faces many difficulties, particularly transportation.

The PM praised Vietjet for its rapid development over the past few years, expressing his hope that enterprises will accompany the Government to boost national socio-economic development including in the Southwest region.

The Government leader suggested that Vietjet study to open more international routes to the Can Tho International Airport amid the overloading at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, while Can Tho airport has reached only 35% of its capacity.

On the occasion, Vietjet and the People’s Committee of Can Tho signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a cooperative relation between the two sides in order to promote trade, airlines, tourism and investment.
