NDO - Politburo member Truong Thi Mai held a working session with leaders of the northern province of Cao Bang on the socio-economic development of the locality on January 16.

Truong Thi Mai, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, noted that despite impressive economic achievements of Cao Bang in 2018, the province is still listed among the poorest localities in Vietnam with a high rate of poor households.

Besides investment in infrastructure and support for the locals to improve their income, Cao Bang should develop a long-term strategy to reduce multi-dimensional poverty for ethnic minority groups and enhance the quality of education, the Party official said.

On the same day, Politburo member Truong Thi Mai visited and presented Tet gifts to soldiers at Soc Ha Border Guard Station and 100 needy ethnic minority households and disadvantaged students in three border communes of Soc Ha, Na Sac and Quy Quan in Ha Quang district.

According to the province's report, Cao Bang fulfilled all 18 targets on socio-economic development set in 2018 and posted an economic growth rate of 7.15%.

The province reported a total budget revenue of nearly VND1.9 trillion (US$81.7 million), the highest ever number, which was equivalent to 168% of the yearly estimate and up 23% compared to 2017.
