NA Vice Chairpersons meet with national contributors and ethnic exemplary representatives

NDO – Politburo member cum Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly (NA) Tong Thi Phong on August 21 hosted a reception for a delegation of prestigious ethnic people from the northern province of Thai Nguyen at NA House in Hanoi.

Briefing the NA official on local situations, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, cum Chairman of the Thai Nguyen People's Council Bui Xuan Hoa stated that in recent years, local socio-economic development has recorded positive results.

Thai Nguyen's budget revenue in 2016 reached VND11.8 trillion (US$519.2 million); in the first seven months of 2017, the figure reached VND7.8 trillion. Currently, there are more than 80 Korean enterprises operating in the province with Sam Sung as the largest, employing about 7,000 local workers. The province’s export value to date has reached US$14 billion, with an average income per capita reaching VND52 million per year.

Thai Nguyen is implementing good policies to promote socio-economic development for ethnic minorities, while building a scheme to transform agricultural economic structure. Thai Nguyen also desires to apply policies that will transform management models of agro-forestry farms to build a land fund for minorities to stabilise their lives.

Praising Thai Nguyen’s positive achievements in recent years, NA Vice Chairwoman Phong recognised its leading industrial products, attracting thousands of experienced workers. In addition, Thai Nguyen possesses typical agricultural products such as "Thai Nguyen Tea" which is well-known around the world. Tourism has also been promoted and is becoming an emblematic product. The province is also the nation’s educational centre, with seven universities. These are the factors that help Thai Nguyen become the centre for education in the northern mountainous midland region as it stands today, NA Vice Chairwoman Phong stressed.

She expressed her hope that with the current pace of development, Thai Nguyen will become one of the leading provinces in the country. She added that the local positive development would not be possible without the contribution of concerned authorities and people at all levels, in which the role of prestigious people among the ethnic communities is very important.

The Politburo member suggested that ethnic minorities will become essential role models in promoting revolutionary tradition and following the Party and State's guidelines and policies, while encouraging others to follow.

She also urged relevant authorities at all levels in the province to focus on building modern rural areas and to pay more attention when it comes to improving the lives of local ethnic minorities.

* On the same day, NA Vice Chairman Phung Quoc Hien received a delegation of former revolutionary prisoners from the central province of Quang Ngai at the NA House.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Hien stressed that Quang Ngai is a land of revolutionary traditions, with a large number of political prisoners during the resistant wars to liberate the country. In recent years, despite economic difficulties, the province has made great efforts and towards applying policies for people with meritorious services to the revolution, including the revolutionary imprisoned.

On behalf of the NA, Vice Chairman Hien praised and local authorities for their good work in caring for national contributors. He affirmed that the NA will do its utmost to meet the expectations of voters and local people in the whole country in terms of activities to care for revolutionary contributors.

He urged the province to continue giving more attention to the gratitude work and timely resolve of problems in support of the policies towards people with meritorious services, as well as promoting the movement of the entire population to take care of policy beneficiaries through various activities of visiting and supporting them.

He also expressed his belief that Quang Ngai former revolutionary prisoners should promote their revolutionary quality in order to build a prosperous locality and educate younger generations on the patriotic tradition.
