NDO – Hanoi’s Gia Lam district should continue to take measures to accelerate the shift in its economic structure towards modernisation by decreasing its reliance on agriculture and increasing its focus on services and industrial production.

Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee Hoang Trung Hai made the recommendation at a working session with the district’s authorities on August 30.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary hailed the socio-economic performance of the district over the past six months, particularly in collecting revenues and producing high-quality agricultural products. Fifteen of the district’s twenty communes have met the criteria for becoming new-style rural areas.

Secretary Hai also emphasised the need to put forth preferential policies to encourage and attract more investment in agriculture, coupled with assisting farmers in applying technology to agricultural production.

The district should increase dialogue with enterprises to address the obstacles they face in a timely manner, he said, adding that more attention should also be paid to training officials, promoting start-up enterprises and constantly improving the investment environment.
