News in Brief: May 3, 2021

On May 2, in the coastal town of Cua Viet, Gio Linh district, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province coordinated with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism to hold a conference on tourism development cooperation with the theme “Quang Tri tourism promotes linkages to exploit potential and achieve value”.

According to the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, in the past four months, the Group produced more than 13.6 million tonnes of raw coal, reaching 35% of the year plan; with consumption of nearly 14 million tonnes and revenue estimated at VND38.61 trillion, contributing VND6.6 trillion to the state budget.

The Thanh Hoa the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on May 3 that the province welcomed around 374,000 visitors during the four-day public holidays lasting from April 30 to May 3, earning total tourism revenue of VND635.8 billion.

The Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Tourism said that the province welcomed 280,000 arrivals of visitors to local tourist destinations during the April 30-May 1 holidays, including over 32,000 to Ha Long Bay, 4,600 to the Yen Tu Monuments and Landscapes Complex, more than 12,000 to Quang Ninh Museum, and nearly 24,000 to the Sun World Hạ Long Complex.

The life and career of 101 generals in the Ho Chi Minh Era are portrayed through a huge booklet of nearly 1,000 pages that has been recently introduced to readers. The most special feature of the book series is that the portraits of these generals were expressed through the pens of famous writers and journalists.

Scientists from the Institute of Marine Environment and Resources (under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) have successfully built a process for tilapia farming using Biofloc technology in brackish water environment and transferred it to the Hai Phong agricultural sector for widespread aquaculture.

The Vietnamese Veterans’ Association in Russia organised an ceremony in Moscow on April 30 to mark Vietnam’s 46th National Reunification Day along with the association’s fifth founding anniversary.

According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s total import-export value in April reached US$50.9 billion, down 12.4% from the previous month, with the export turnover estimated at US$25 billion (down 15.7%) and the import revenue at US$25.9 billion (down 9%). The customs sector’s state budget revenue during the month stood at VND29.87 billion (US$1.28 billion).

On May 1, the People’s Committee of Ly Son District (Quang Ngai Province) launched the construction, renovation and upgrading of An Vinh 2 Primary School, which was heavily damaged by storms, heavy rains and floods in late 2020. The total funding for the project is nearly VND1 billion (US$43,168).

A culinary contest, themed “Mam” (Fish Sauce), officially took place in U Minh Town in the district of the same name in the Mekong River Delta province of Ca Mau. This was among the activities under the programme “Ca Mau – A destination in 2021”.

The 2021 National Chess Team Tournament – TPBank Cup officially opened in the Mekong River Delta city of Can Tho, featuring the participation of 350 players from 25 units around the country.

The State Bank of Vietnam has issued a decision to set the interest rate for the purchase and lease purchase of social housing at credit institutions assigned by the State at 4.8% per year.
