At the performance, Guilhem Desq will introduce works composed by himself, bringing innovation to this unique instrument.
Hurdy-gurdy is a stringed instrument that produces sound as the strings rub against a wooden wheel. The players use one hand to operate the wheel and another to move on the keyboard like playing piano.
Some artists continue to explore the original hurdy-gurdy, while many others are transforming it into an electric version in line with contemporary composition.
Guilhem Desq’s father was an artisan manipulating hurdy-gurdy, so he was in touch with this instrument since he was very young. With only an electric hurdy-gurdy, the talented artist seems to bring an orchestra to the strage.
Tickets are available at L’Espace.
