Fifth International Puppet Festival kicks off

NDO – The 5th International Puppet Festival opened on October 8 with puppeteers from eight countries performing at Au Co Theatre, in Hanoi.

According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Khanh Hai, the International Puppetry Festival 2018 is a meaningful exchanging event of art and culture, which is organised periodically to promote cooperation in cultural and artistic fields between Vietnam and other countries in the world.

The festival is also considered as a chance for Vietnamese puppeteers to introduce the unique and artistic puppetry of Vietnam to the international community.

About 100 puppeteers from Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand, Belgium, France and Brazil traveled to Vietnam for the festival. The four Vietnamese troupes participating include the Vietnam Puppetry Theatre, Thang Long Puppetry Theatre, Hai Phong Puppetry Theatre and Ho Chi Minh City Puppetry Theatre.

There will be various types of shows showcasing the cultural features of the participating countries including water puppetry, shadow puppetry, rod puppetry, glove puppetry and mask puppetry.

In addition, a workshop entitled Relationship Between Body and Puppet will be held on October 13 in Hanoi.

The festival runs until October 15 in Hanoi.
