The 18th national film festival will take place in Ha Long city in the northern province of Quang Ninh from October 12-15.

The announcement was made by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien at a press conference in Hanoi on August 27.

According to the director of the ministry’s Cinematography Department, Ngo Phuong Lan, who heads the organising board, the festival will introduce cinematographic works full of fresh content and profound ideas and imbued with national identity.

Themed “Vietnam’s Cinematography: Nation, Humanity, Creativity, Integration”, the event aims to honour the creativity of Vietnamese filmmakers in the context of increasing international integration.

The four-day festival will screen feature films, documentaries, scientific films and animations.

As of August 21, the organising board had received 48 submissions from 12 groups nationwide. They included 11 celluloid feature films, one video, 27 documentaries, seven scientific films and two animations.

Several famous filmmakers from France and the Republic of Korea will attend the festival, and a seminar on co-operation in producing and publishing films is planned.

During the event, artists will hold a number of exchanges with miners, students and soldiers.

A film week that corresponds with the festival, held concurrently in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, begins on September 20.
