NDO – The Vietnam National Seed Corporation (Vinaseed) inaugurated and put into operation an industrial centre for seed and agricultural product processing in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap on December 14.

The centre is equipped with a modern, synchronous, and automated line, built using 100% Japanese technology. Investment in the first phase of the project totalled at nearly VND350 billion (US$15.03 million).

Chairman and General Director of Vinaseed, Tran Kim Lien, said that the centre has a processing and preservation capacity of 100,000 tonnes of rice and 50,000 tonnes of seeds per year.

The centre will also look to research and produce varieties of seedling for the large-scale rice production in the Mekong Delta region with the focus on products with good resistance to climate change and pests.

It is also expected to meet the rice varieties demand of 75% of farmers and raise their income by 30% in the future.

In addition, the centre aims to change the method of agricultural production management toward 4.0 technologies to reduce losses in rice production while facilitating small and medium enterprises, cooperatives and farmer households to participate in Vinaseed’s value chain in order to bring about stable income for farmers.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh said that the centre will contribute to perfecting the rice value chain from seed to production, harvest, processing and consumption for the Mekong Delta region, the largest rice production hub of the country.
