Domestic gold prices shoot up to VND43 million per tael

NDO - Gold prices in Vietnam surged to VND43 million (US$1,849) per teal on the morning of August 26 in tandem with the current global upward trend and setting a record high in seven years.

As of 9:45am in Hanoi, Phu Quy listed the buying and selling prices of SJC gold at VND42.45 million per tael and VND43 million per tael respectively.

Meanwhile in Ho Chi Minh City, a tael of SJC gold was bought at VND42.45 million and sold at VND42.85 million.

The gap between the buying and selling prices has widened from VND400,000 to VND550,000 per tael.

On the global market, gold prices opened on Monday up US$30 per ounce to US$1,553.40 before falling to US$1,541 as of 9:45am.

The US dollar index, which measures the value of the US dollar to a basket of six other key currencies was at 97.67.

On August 26, the State Bank of Vietnam listed the exchange rate at VND23,114 per US dollar, down VND13 from last Friday.

At Vietcombank, the buying and selling prices of the US dollar were VND23,150 and VND23,270 respectively, up VND5 from last Friday.
