NDO - Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has asked the agencies concerned to evaluate the implementation of three existing rural and agricultural development programmes so that new policies for the next five years could soon be formulated.

The official was speaking at a conference on July 15 to review various resolutions concerning cooperatives, forestry companies and new rural construction.

He said the three issues are separate but are closely related in fostering agriculture, forestry and development in rural and mountainous areas, noting that reviewing them will contribute to preparing the documents for the upcoming National Party Congress.

Deputy PM Hue affirmed that more than half of Vietnam’s communes will meet the criteria of a new rural area by the end of 2019, one year earlier than scheduled.

He stated that a thorough review of the programme to build new rural areas is important to create a policy framework for the programme beyond 2020.

Concerning a review of the collective economy, the Deputy PM asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance to compile a white paper on the current state of cooperatives in Vietnam.

At the conference, Deputy PM Hue also requested the ministries and agencies concerned to fully assess the equitisation of state-owned forestry companies and farms in order to develop new policies for the next period.
