Agro-forestry and fishery exports reach over US$15 billion in six months

NDO – Export turnover of Vietnam’s agro-forestry-fishery products was estimated to reach a total of US$15.05 billion in the first six months of 2016, up 5.4% over the same period last year.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that in June the sector’s export revenues hit US$2.5 billion.

Of the total figure, farm produce exports were valued at US$7.32 billion, up 5.1% over the same period last year, and seafood exports generated US$3.07 billion, up 3.8%. Only forestry product exports decreased at 0.1% compared to the same period last year, totalling US$3.33 billion.

Since the start of the year, coffee exports have seen strong growth with shipments up 39.8% to 985,000 tonnes, and value up 17.6% in the first six months of 2016, earning US$1.71 billion. 

Cashews also posted solid growth, with 156,000 tonnes exported in the six months, bringing in US$1.2 billion.

Fishery exports in the six months rose slightly by 3.8% to reach US$3.07 billion.

The January-June period saw rubber and tea shipments up 3.5% and 3.1%, but value down 11.9% and 2.7%, respectively.
