NDO – Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Ngo Thi Hoa has assumed the rotating chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in The Hague (ACTH) for the next six months of 2018.

The ACTH convened its regular meeting for April in The Hague on April 24 with the attendance of the ambassadors from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The meeting approved the activities of the ACTH for the next six months of 2018 and proceeded to transfer the chairmanship of the ACTH from Indonesian Ambassador I Gusti Agung Wesaka Puja to Vietnamese Ambassador Ngo Thi Hoa.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Hoa conveyed her congratulations to the Indonesian diplomat who successfully fulfilled the chairmanship role over the past six months and affirmed that Vietnam would endeavour to operate the Committee during the next term with practical results.

The ASEAN ambassadors congratulated Ambassador Hoa on her new role and expressed their confidence that Vietnam would play a good role in the new term, helping to promote solidarity and cooperation between ASEAN and the Netherlands, the European Union, and other international organisations headquartered in The Hague.

During the six-month tenure, the Embassy of Vietnam will continue to play an active and responsible role in organising the main activities of the Committee, such as chairing meetings of the ASEAN Ambassadors with working groups, facilitating contacts with local scholars, businesses and local community, and promoting ASEAN cooperation with international organisations in fields of mutual interest.

In addition to official activities, the embassy will host a range of ASEAN exchanges to enhance the understanding and solidarity among officials and employees of the ASEAN representative missions in the Netherlands.

Through its rotating presidency, the ACTH will continue its activities in promoting and enhancing ASEAN understanding among the local communities, especially in the business community and among local youngsters, thereby contributing to enhancing the role and position of Vietnam in ACTH as well as among local partners.
