NDO- Followed are some outstanding events that made the headlines over the past week selected by Nhan Dan Online.
1. Singaporean PM visits Vietnam
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong paid an official visit to Vietnam from March 21-23 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc with the aim of accelerating the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Singapore in an extensive and substantive manner.
The Singaporean PM held talks and meetings with Vietnamese top leaders including Party Chief Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan among other senior leaders.
2. Israeli President pays State visit to Vietnam

President of Israel Reuven Ruvi Rivlin paid a State visit to Vietnam from March 19-25 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang which helped to deepen the bilateral relations and promote co-operation in many potential fields of the two countries.
The President of Israel had a busy schedule while in Vietnam with many meetings with Vietnamese key leaders and the media as well as witnessing the signing of a number of joint projects and co-operation programmes in various fields.
3. Vietnam attends G20 senior officials' meeting in Germany
A Vietnamese delegation led by assistant to the Foreign Minister, Vu Quang Minh attended the Sherpa Meeting of the G20 Developing and Emerging Economies in Frankfurt, Germany on March 23-24 as part of preparations for the G20 Summit slated for Hamburg city in early July 2017.
It is the second time Vietnam has been invited to the G20 Summit and related meetings which will contribute to enhancing the country’s role and position on the international arena.
4. Vietnam participates in Francophone festival in France
Vietnamese representatives attended a Francophone festival held in Yebles commune, Seine et Marne province, in the outskirts of Paris, on March 25-26.
5. Vietnam saves 471,000 kWh of electricity during Earth Hour Campaign 2017

Vietnam has joined the Earth Hour campaign each year since 2009 and is considered as one of the actions implemented by the Government and the people to demonstrate their commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 8% by 2030, joining hands with the rest of the world in responding to climate change.
6. FDI capital up 91.5% in Q1
The first quarter of this year saw over US$7.71 billion in FDI capital, including newly registered capital and supplemented capital, up 91.5% over the same period last year, with about US$3.62 billion disbursed, up 3.4% over the same period in 2016, the Foreign Investment Department announced on March 24.
Of the total, US$6.54 billion was poured into the manufacturing and processing industry, accounting for 84.9% of the total FDI capital. Bac Ninh was the leading province in FDI attraction, which posted a total registered capital of US$2.61 billion, accounting for 33.86% of the total capital.
7. First stomach cancer surgery carried out with robotic technology

Ho Chi Minh City’s Binh Dan Hospital on March 20 conducted the first stomach cancer surgery with robotic arms for a male patient, 54, from the Mekong Delta Dong Thap Province.
The surgery was expected to make incisions in 2/3 of the patient’s stomach and thoroughly remove cancerous tumors using surgical robots with a surgery time of about four hours. Robotic surgery will allow surgeons to thoroughly remove cancerous lymph nodes, while limiting blood loss and tissue damage and minimising the risk of cancer metastases and relapses.
