NDO/VNA – The central province of Thua Thien Hue welcomed 414,500 international visitors in the first half of this year, up 6.76% annually, with tourists from the Republic of Korea (RoK) topping the list.

In this period, over 97,000 Koreans visited the central locality, accounting for 26% of the total amount of visitors.

Acknowledging the increasing number of Korean visitors, investors and enterprises in the province are paying attention to upgrading My An and Thanh Tan hot springs, which are among the preferred destinations for Korean and Japanese tourists.

Tran Viet Luc, head of the tourism development studies desk under the provincial Department of Tourism, said that the department has plans to invite Korean experts to help local businesses in selecting tourism products that are attractive to visitors from this market.

During the January-June period, the province’s tourism sector served a total of 1.75 million tourists, earning more than VND1.7 trillion (US$76.34 million), up 1.9% and 8.3% from the same period last year, respectively.

This year, it aims to draw between 3.3-3.5 million tourists, with 40-45% being foreign visitors, generating VND3.2-3.3 trillion (US$140.7-US$145.1 million), up 8% in number and 3% in revenues from 2016.
