* The Spanish Football Federation has appointed Luis Enrique as Spain's new national team coach, the president of the federation Luis Rubiales announced during a press conference on Monday (July 9). A former midfielder for Sporting Gijon, Real Madrid and Barcelona, Luis Enrique won two Liga titles, one Champions League and three King's Cups as Barca coach between 2014 and 2017.
* Wayne Pivac, head coach of Welsh rugby union side Scarlets, will take over as Wales coach when Warren Gatland steps down after the 2019 World Cup in Japan, the Welsh Rugby Union said on Monday. The New Zealander, a former coach of the Fiji national side, won the Guinness Pro12 trophy with the Welsh side Scarlets in 2017.
* The Spanish Super Cup game between Barcelona and Sevilla will be contested over one match at a neutral venue on August 12 rather than the traditional two-leg home and away format, Spain's football federation (RFEF) said on Monday. Federation president Luis Rubiales said he hopes the game will take place in the Moroccan city of Tangier, subject to approval from soccer's world governing body FIFA.
* Croatia’s Football Federation (HNS) sacked Ognjen Vukojevic, a member of the national team's coaching staff, over a "glory to Ukraine" video posted after Croatia beat Russia in the World Cup quarter-finals, HNS said in a statement on Monday. Vukojevic and Croatia defender Domagoj Vida published the video on social media after the match on Saturday in a move which was criticised by Russian politicians and led to a warning from FIFA's disciplinary committee.
* Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo from Gremio on a six-year deal after an agreement by the clubs in March, the Spanish champions said on Monday. The La Liga club said in a statement on their website that the transfer fee for the 21-year-old, who joins immediately, was EUR31 million (27.4 million pounds) with 9 million in “variables”.
