NDO – Hanoi FC concluded their 2018 V.League first leg campaign unbeaten after fighting back to thrash Quang Ninh Coal 4-1 in the 13th round of play on June 13.

The match at Hang Day stadium took centre stage, with manager Phan Thanh Hung’s side expected to halt the capital team’s run of 12 games without losing.

Quang Ninh got off to a good start in realising that mission, as Joel was successful from the penalty spot to put the guests in front after only seven minutes.

Inspired by the early opener, Quang Ninh Coal played more confidently and effectively defended against the home side’s attacks during the majority of the first half.

Despite their concerted efforts, the visitors could not preserve their advantage until the interval, with current top scorer Oseni producing a stunning backheel to restore the parity for Hanoi FC with 42 minutes on the clock.

After the break, Hanoi manager Chu Dinh Nghiem sent Hoang Vu Samson and Van Quyet onto the field in replacement of Van Dai and Thanh Luong, respectively, thus making the host team’s attacks more diverse.

Nghiem’s adjustments proved effective, as two minutes after the hour market, substitute Van Quyet took advantage of Huy Cuong’s mistake to make it 2-1 for Hanoi FC. Samson also marked an impressive comeback to the V.League by netting two additional goals in the remainder of the match, thereby sealing a resounding 4-1 victory for Chu Dinh Nghiem’s side.

With the full three points against Quang Ninh Coal, Hanoi FC were crowned the winners of the 2018 V.League first leg, securing 35 points following an unbeaten streak of 11 wins and two draws, and enjoying a 11-point lead over second-placed Quang Ninh.

Newly promoted Nam Dinh FC achieved their second league win after beating Saigon FC with a narrow score of 1-0. HCM City played out a 1-1 tie with Becamex Binh Duong, the only draw of the 13th round, while Hoang Anh Gia Lai lost 2-3 at home to reigning champions Quang Nam.
