Vietnamese athletes encouraged ahead of SEA Games departure

NDO – Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien, paid a visit to the Hanoi National Sports Training Centre on August 7, in order to encourage Vietnam’s athletes and the coaching staff, prior to their arrival in Malaysia for the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The minister was joined by Vuong Bich Thang, Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, and Tran Duc Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department and Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the 29th SEA Games.

Thien toured the training sections of Vietnam’s SEA Game teams in the sports of taekwondo, pencak silat, karatedo, weightlifting, gymnastics, men’s volleyball, sepak takraw, athletics, table tennis, archery and shooting.

He kindly encouraged and stimulated the spirit of trainers and athletes, whilst assigning targets to each national team at the upcoming Games.

Expressing their delight at the minister’s visit, members of the national teams pledged to compete to the best of their abilities to bring glory to the homeland.

Minister Thien will attend a send-off for the Vietnamese SEA Games delegation scheduled tonight in Hanoi.

* On the same day, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports also held an assembly aiming to encourage the city’s athletes and trainers ahead of their departure for SEA Games missions in Malaysia.

Many of Hanoi’s outstanding sportspersons will be the “golden hopes” for Vietnam at the largest regional sporting event, including Duong Thuy Vy (wushu), Vu Thanh An (fencing), Dinh Phuong Thanh (gymnastics), Bui Thi Thu Thao (athletics) and Ha Thi Nguyen (taekwondo).
