NDO – A total of 14 participating teams joined in the draw of the 36th Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championships, held at the 29-Yersin Gymnasium in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province, on May 20.

In the men’s team event, reigning champions Hanoi T&T 1 have been drawn in Group A, together with Khanh Hoa, the Ministry of Public Security and Hai Duong, while Group B is made up of the Army team 1, Hanoi T&T 2, Da Nang, and Lam Dong 1.

Group C features Hai Duong 1, Ho Chi Minh City 1, Lam Dong 2 and Hanoi 2, while the Army team 2, Hanoi 1, HCM City 2, and Tien Giang belong to Group D. According to preliminary assessments, Hanoi T&T 1, the Army team 1, and Hai Duong 1 are the odds-on favourites for the overall crown.

In terms of the women’s team category, last year’s winners HCM City 1, with their key player Mai Hoang My Trang, have been placed in Group A, alongside Tien Giang, Long An, and Hai Phong. HCM City 2, Hai Duong 2, Hanoi T&T and Khanh Hoa have been drawn in Group B, while Hai Duong 1 join the Army team, Tay Ninh and Lam Dong 2 in Group C. Group D consists of Hanoi 1, the Ministry of Public Security, Lam Dong 1 and Vinh Long.

The technical staff are making last-minute preparations for the 36th Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championships.

With regards to the men’s singles event, reigning champion Dinh Quang Linh (Army team) and runner-up Nguyen Anh Tu (Hanoi T&T) have been arranged in separate sides of the draw in order to avoid an early clash between them. Despite his final loss to Quang Linh last year, Anh Tu, who is currently in extraordinary form, is seen as the odds-on title favourite in the 2018 competition.

11-time champion Mai Hoang My Trang remains the brightest candidate for this year’s crown in the women’s singles tourney.

The 36th Nhan Dan Newspaper National Table Tennis Championships will take place at the 29-Yersin Gymnasium from May 22 to 27, with a total of 135 players on 14 teams vying for seven sets of medals in the men’s and women’s singles, doubles and team events, as well as the mixed doubles category.
