NDO – Hanoi FC, the frontrunners in the V.League 2018 title race, have widened the gap with second place, Quang Ninh Coal, to six points after making light work of newly promoted Nam Dinh FC 2-0 in the eighth round of play on May 20.

Their superior level helped Hanoi FC to take control during the majority of the away match at Thien Truong Stadium.

Chu Dinh Nghiem’s side needed only 21 minutes to break the deadlock, with Duy Manh firing the opener from close range.

Nam Dinh could not take advantage of their opportunities to level the game before the break due to poor performance of their two foreign players. Henry’s close-range header went wide, while Benjamin was withdrawn after just 30 minutes.

The guests built on with their stable form in the second half, with their domination materialised by Oseni who headed home to seal a 2-0 victory for Hanoi FC.

It was the 11th goal scored by the Nigerian forward since the beginning of the season, which helped him to consolidate his lead in the “top scorer” race of the 2018 V.League.

With the comfortable win, Hanoi FC continue to sit comfortably on top of the table with 20 points, six points clear of second place Quang Ninh Coal, who suffered a bitter 1-3 loss at home against FLC Thanh Hoa on the same day.

Meanwhile, a home defeat kept Nam Dinh FC rooted to bottom with just four points.

In the other matches, former champions Becamex Binh Duong got a foothold in the top three after edging out guests Hai Phong 2-1, while SHB Da Nang thrashed Ho Chi Minh City with three straight goals.

Saigon FC, XSKT Can Tho, and reigning champions Quang Nam recorded respective 1-1, 2-2, and 1-1 draws against Sanna Khanh Hoa BVN, Hoang Anh Gia Lai, and Song Lam Nghe An.
