Party, State leaders cast ballots for NA and People’s Councils deputies

NDO – Joining the jubilant atmosphere of over 69 million constituents across the country, Party and State leaders took to the polls on the morning of May 22 to cast ballots for deputies to the 14th National Assembly and the all-level People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 tenure.
At polling station No. 3 in Hai Ba Trung district’s Nguyen Du commune in Hanoi, General Secretary and Secretary of the Central Military Commission Nguyen Phu Trong, together with the oldest voter Bui Thi Sao, 86, and the youngest voter Luu Quang Hoa, 18, cast the first ballots, followed by the majority of constituents in the locality who were exercising their rights and duties as citizens of Vietnam.
Answering questions put forth by both domestic and foreign correspondents after polling, the Party chief expressed his hope that all of the elected NA and People’s Councils deputies would devote themselves wholeheartedly to the country and people, fully fulfill their responsibilities stipulated by the Constitution and law, and be worthy of being the representatives of the people to lead society and the nation.
Regarding the roles of people-elected deputies and agencies in improving the socialist state ruled by law and of the people, by the people and for the people and meeting the country’s requirements for renovation, General Secretary Trong asked the next NA tenure to perform three crucial functions: legislation, supervision and making decisions on the country’s important issues, as well as effectively implementing the parliamentary diplomacy in the current situation.
He thanked all voters and people nationwide for actively responding to this year’s election – the largest one ever with over 69 million voters – believing that they would vote for the most deserving candidates to represent them in effectively performing the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.

President Tran Dai Quang also cast his ballots for NA and People’s Councils deputies at a polling station in Thanh Xuan district’s Nhan Chinh commune in Hanoi on Sunday.
The State leader expressed his pleasure and pride to exercise the right and duty of a Vietnamese citizen as stipulated by the law.
The election takes place as the country is celebrating 30 years of implementing the Party-initiated and led renovation campaign with significant achievements made, President Quang said, hailing the importance of the general election in building, strengthening and perfecting the socialist Vietnamese state ruled by law and of the people, by the people and for the people, meeting the need for boosting the country’s industrialisation, modernisation and international integration cause.
He expressed hope that voters nationwide would select the most competent and virtuous deputies who will represent their will, aspirations and right to mastery.
Meanwhile, at 7 A.M. this morning, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse joined voters at polling station No. 8, located in Vinh Bao town, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong.

Speaking to reporters after voting, the Government leader stressed that Election Day is the country’s most important political event when citizens have the opportunity to exercise their right and duty to vote for deputies who are capable of representing voters’ will and aspirations.
He expressed his belief that the general election would contribute to perfecting the State apparatus in order to successfully actualise the Resolution of the 12th National Party Congress from the central to the grassroots levels.
He called on relevant agencies and sectors to exert every effort for the success of the election.

Vo Van Thuong, Politburo member and head of the Party Central Committee’s Information and Education Commission cast his ballot at polling station No. 82 in Ward 15, Phu Nhuan district, HCM City.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh performed his citizen right at polling station No. 115 in ward 11, Tan Binh district, HCM City.
Former President Truong Tan Sang, former Prime Ministers Phan Van Khai and Nguyen Tan Dung and former permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Le Hong Anh also cast their ballots at polling stations in HCM City.
