NDO – Northwestern provinces need to prepare and successfully carry out plans for the upcoming election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and the all-level People’s Councils for the 2016-2021 tenure.

Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh made the request at a working session with the Steering Committee for the Northwestern Region in Yen Bai province on May 19.

Binh praised the outstanding results achieved by the steering committee over the past years, which, he said, have contributed significantly to socio-economic development and ensuring social security and order in the region.

The deputy PM attached top priority to improving the lives of northwestern ethnic people, while asking provinces to identify their potential and strengths for effective development measures, as well as associate local livelihoods with environmental protection.

The steering committee needs to ensure local security and effectively combat crimes such as drugs and trafficking of women and children, as well as build a border of friendship, peace and development, Binh said.

He requested the committee review recommendations of provinces and work with ministries and sectors to realise them in an effective fashion, contributing to local socio-economic development and improvements in people’s lives.

He also asked for coordination among localities, ministries and sectors to work out relevant policies and practical measures to boost development of the northwestern region.
