NDO – Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has called for extensive renovation in the library sector in order to raise the position of libraries and make them more attractive to library goers.

The Government official made the request at a seminar held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in Hanoi, on December 5, on developing and renovating library activities.

He hailed many examples which stand out in the library sector, including the friendly school library model in Lao Cai province, the establishment of new libraries in Nam Dinh province with investment coming from non-State sources, and the library launched by a group of young people in Hoai Duc district (Hanoi).

He stressed the need to foster the application of information and technology in the operation of libraries in order to meet the demand of readers in the context of the fourth Industrial Revolution.

Libraries should also increase their connections with each other so as to share digital data sources, he added.

The seminar attracted the participation of scientists, managers and those working in the library sector.

Participant at the seminar reviewed the contributions made by the library sector to the country’s socio-economic and cultural development over recent years and discussed the orientations for the sector’ operations in the future.
