NDO - A Government delegation led by Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh visited and gave presents to fishermen in the central province of Quang Binh on May 14.

In the provincial capital of Dong Hoi and Bo Trach district, the Deputy PM spoke with the fishermen about their lives and efforts to overcome their difficulties, as well as the paying of compensation for the marine disaster in 2016 and their catch this year.

A number of fishermen informed the Government official that, after receiving their compensation, they borrowed more money to purchase higher-power fishing vessels.

However, many villages are facing a shortage of manpower because a lot of young labourers are now working abroad for higher pay than fishing, the fishermen said, while also suggesting that enterprises should provide support to help them sell their catch.

The Deputy PM praised the fishermen’s efforts to overcome the difficulties brought about by the marine disaster in 2016 and encouraged them to build larger ships and comply with fishing regulations.

He also assured them that their suggestions will be dealt with so that they can keep sailing.

According to Quang Binh Deputy Chairman Le Minh Ngan, the fishing industry in the province has been truly restored.

The province has also disbursed nearly VND2.8 trillion (US$123 million) of compensation for local fishermen.
