Vietnamese community abroad celebrates Tet

NDO – Celebrations for the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) have created a bustling Tet atmosphere among Vietnamese communities in foreign countries, with the festival only a few days away.
On February 12, at the Paris City Hall, the Vietnamese Embassy in France hosted a celebration for the traditional Tet holiday. This is the fifth time Vietnamese Tet is has been officially celebrated in France to continue introducing the unique culture of Vietnam to international friends.
Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Thiep emphasized that with the proud tradition over the past 100 years, the Vietnamese community in France has followed the patriotism fostered by President Ho Chi Minh in the early years of the 20th century when he lived and worked here, while making important contributions to the host country in various fields.
Expressing her joy in attending the traditional Vietnamese New Year celebration in Paris, the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, affirmed that the presence of Vietnamese community and Vietnamese culture is an important part of the capital city of France. The country, especially Paris, is proud of the great contribution that the Vietnamese community has made to its culture and customs, she affirmed.

The same day, the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia hosted a banquet at the Hanoi-Moscow multifunctional complex in Moscow. The event was attended by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Economic Development, the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association, the embassies of ASEAN countries in Russia and a number of Vietnamese people.
Appreciating the ambassador’s condolences, Director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Third Asian Department Ludmila Gheorghievna lauded Vietnam, particularly its role in ASEAN, Asia and the world. She wished Vietnamese people happiness and continued success in the New Year.
On February 12, Vietnamese people in Germany held a concert in celebration of Tet in Leipzig city. The event featured 19 performances by 12 Vietnamese arts clubs from across Germany.
The similar events were also held in the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, Cuba, Thailand and South Africa, offering a chance for Vietnamese expats to gather and welcome in Tet. Participants enjoyed traditional Vietnamese foods and music performances.
