Vietnam’s Buddhism contributes to creating spirit of national unity

NDO - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), and Head of the PCC's Commission for Mass Mobilisation, Truong Thi Mai hosted a reception in Hanoi on February 9 for Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council.

Speaking at the meeting, Politburo member Truong Thi Mai offered congratulations to the VBS for the success of the eighth National Congress of the VBS.

With over 14 million followers, more than 30,000 dignitaries, and over 40 training establishments, Buddhism plays an important role in Vietnamese people’s spiritual life, she noted.

The Politburo member hailed the contributions made by the VBS to the nation as well as its efforts to help ethnic minority groups, poor people, and disadvantaged students with strong academic records.

She used the occasion to extend New Year wishes to Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, and other dignitaries on the VBS’s Executive Council.

For his part, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu affirmed that the VBS will continue joining hands with other religions and with the entirety of society to create a great national unity and contribute to the further development of the nation.
