NDO - The Ministry of Transport on January 8 agreed to lower fees collected at the Can Tho - Phung Hiep toll station in the southern city of Can Tho for a second time in a month.

The first fee reduction at the station, designed to charge vehicles using a 22-kilometre section of National Highway 1, came in December 2017.

The Ministry of Transport, local authorities and investors of the road repair project met on Monday to seek solutions to deal with traffic congestion at the toll station over the past days.

Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Nhat agreed with the four proposals from the Can Tho government, under which, fees will be eliminated for owners of vehicles who do not run business in the vicinity of the toll station in Can Tho and Hau Giang province.

At the same time, fees will be halved for the owners of vehicles from 10 seats and trucks with a payload of over one tonne who live a number of localities in Can Tho.

Households and enterprises that have specific transport contracts from more than three months and travel the route less than five km from the station will also enjoy the fee exemption.

In addition, all buses operating on the Nga Bay town - Can Tho route will also enjoy fee exemption.
