NDO - An office building was inaugurated on December 3 at the Cau Treo border checkpoint between Vietnam’s Ha Tinh province and Laos’s Bolikhamsai province in the presence of Vietnamese Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue.

Construction on the building began in July 2011 at a total cost of VND214 billion (US$9.4 million).

The four-storey building will be used for diplomatic activities as well as for security and defence at the border area.

It will also be a symbol of culture, national sovereignty and the friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

The same day, Deputy PM Hue attended a ground-breaking ceremony for construction of the Ngan Truoi Hydropower Plant, which has a capacity of 13.5 megawatt and costs at an estimated VND340 billion (US$15 million).

The power station is expected generate 55 million kWh and produce revenues of VND60 billion, or US$2.64 million, a year.

As part of his visit to Ha Tinh province, Hue also offered incense and planted trees at a memorial temple dedicated to the 18th renowned doctor Le Huu Trac in Huong Son district.
