Vietnam helps Laos to build education-training facilities

NDO - A ceremony to commence the construction of three education-training facilities was held in Vientiane, Laos, on November 14, by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) of Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos.

The projects include the second phase of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship High School, the upgrading of the international student dormitories at the National University of Laos and the construction of the Faculty of Vietnamese Language at Souphanouvong University.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Kongsy Sengmany said that the construction of the three educational and training projects in Laos is one of the significant activities to celebrate the Laos-Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017.

The Deputy Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the Party and State leaders, as well as the people of Vietnam, who have always provided support and assistance to Laos, especially in the field of education.

The second phase of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship High School consists of the construction of a new three-storey building, with a total investment of VND20.5 billion (approx. US$900,000), sourced from official development assistance of Vietnam (98.4%) and corresponding capital from Laos. The construction period is scheduled from November 2017 to January 1, 2019.

The upgrading of the international student dormitories at the National University of Laos, is scheduled to be implemented from November 2017 to August, 2018, including the upgrading of a total area of 15,300 square metres with a total investment of VND40 billion (approx. US$1.8 million).

In addition, the construction of the Faculty of Vietnamese Language at Souphanouvong University has a total investment of over VND24 billion (over US$1 million).
