NDO – For the first time in Vietnam, VOV-Doctor24 and VOV-Bacsi24 – two online video call medical counseling apps were officially launched on September 28 in Hanoi, aimed at facilitating high-quality health check-ups and treatment for the community using modern technologies.

VOV-Doctor24 and VOV-Bacsi24 are two software solutions that allow users to register for consultation with doctors across the country, from anywhere and at any time of the day. The applications give users easy access to economical healthcare measures that are suitable for smartphones, tablets and personal computers running IOS, Android and Windows.

The typical advantage of the applications is to support 3G and 4G free of charge when there is no wifi connection or low transmission. They ensure the quality of doctors joining the service, as well as their security and fees. The system is able to save conversations so that patients can replay them again when needed.

At the launch ceremony, on behalf of the unit creating and deploying the applications, General Director of Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) Nguyen The Ky said that, at present, domestic community healthcare is facing a range of difficulties, with hospitals being overloaded and people living far away from medical facilities that are in need of health advice but do not know which method is suitable.

The Health and Food Safety Channel (VOV FM89) under VOV has developed the software allowing online video call consultation on smart phones and computers to serve this need, Ky stated, adding that the new applications will create a bridge and act as a useful information channel between people, doctors and the healthcare sector, thus facilitating medical examinations and consultations.

The applications also help people to enjoy a new experience and gain useful knowledge to protect and care for themselves, their families and the community. VOV will collect comments from users in order to effectively improve the applications and integrate new sub-conveniences for people across the country and the overseas Vietnamese community using the service.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien highly appreciated the launch of the two applications and emphasised that the online video call counseling service will help users to save time and costs, while meeting the needs for medical counseling, examination and the treatment of people in remote areas and the overseas community with prestigious doctors and professors.

The initiative will contribute to easing the overload at hospitals and reduce the costs to patients and the health insurance system, while creating a new channel in the health sector to deliver information to patients and the community, Tien said, affirming that her ministry is ready to cooperate with the VOV to further develop the application, especially in making a list of doctors and specialised hospitals for users to refer to.

According to the VOV, the applications will be developed in three phases, including providing consultancy on medical examination and treatment for people throughout the country and overseas Vietnamese, before developing an international version to serve medical consultation for foreigners and attract medical tourism, in addition to allowing direct connection between personal devices and the physician when smart personal health testing devices are available.

Through the applications, doctors can provide advice and referral for patients to go to local health facilities for prompt medical treatment, rather than having to go to the central level hospitals. Thanks to the software, patients should pay only a low cost rather than making a visit to doctors; even though they can schedule an appointment with their doctors and follow up treatment directly.
