Vietnam-US Friendship Association convenes congress

NDO – The Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations have coordinated with the Vietnam-America Friendship Association to hold the fifth Congress of the Vietnam-US Friendship Association for the 2017-2020 tenure in Hanoi on September 9.

At the congress, the association elected a 27-member Executive Committee for the 2017-2022 tenure headed by Nguyen Hong Son, Director of the Hanoi Institute for Socio-Economic Development Studies.

During the 2017-2022 tenure, the association will focus on strengthening the organisation of the Association's Executive Committee and adapting new chapters. The association will also give attention to improving the quality and efficiency of the Association's activities, promoting information dissemination, cultural and art exchanging events and international cooperation.

Meanwhile, the association will also organise joint activities on the official holidays of the two countries; welcoming delegations of American Friendship Organisations to visit Hanoi and Vietnam; and continuing to maintain and strengthen close friendship with the US Embassy in Vietnam.

The association will also act to boost economic, cultural, sports and tourism connections between Vietnam and the US, as well as the two countries’ cities.

Addressing the event, Molly Stephenson, Counselor for Public Affairs, US Embassy in Hanoi, thanked the efforts of the Vietnam-US Friendship Association in Hanoi in promoting relations between the two countries.

The Vietnam-US Friendship Association in Hanoi was established on May 21, 1996 and now has 19 chapters with regular membership of 2,000 members. Over the past years, the Vietnam-US Friendship Association of Hanoi has participated in large events such as the US’s Independence Day and the anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations.
