NDO - President Tran Dai Quang has said it is necessary for local governments to ensure harmony between socio-economic development and promoting ethnic culture.

He made the remark on April 20 while meeting with 122 delegates who are village heads, craftsmen and respected citizens from ethnic communities in 15 mountainous border provinces.

The State leader stated that honouring ethnic cultural values, which have been transmitted from generation to generation, is a way to strengthen national pride and national solidarity.

He noted that ethnic communities in mountainous areas remain the country’s most disadvantaged with a high rate of poverty, a widening gap in the standard of living with other regions while a number of fine ethnic cultural values are being undermined.

At the meeting, President Quang praised the contributions of village heads in border areas and appreciated their role in the cause of national construction and defence, especially in ethnic cultural affairs.

He emphasised that the Party always attaches importance to safeguarding and promoting traditional cultural values of ethnic groups.

President Quang expected that those he met with would continue to foster their role to persuade local residents to properly implement Party policies and State laws on ethnic affairs, as well as place emphasis on educating young people to make active contributions to local development.
