NDO - Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam visited the central province of Ha Tinh on November 20, to commemorate educators from the region on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers Day.

In Trung Le commune, Duc Tho district, the Deputy PM offered incense to the late professor Le Van Thiem (1919-1991), who was credited with laying the foundation for the development of Vietnam’s modern mathematics sector.

He directly educated the first generations of Vietnamese mathematicians and many of his research works were applied to solve practical problems.

Speaking with the people of Trung Le commune, Deputy PM Dam emphasised that, despite being situated in a naturally unfavourable region, Ha Tinh has always been considered a sacred land that produces talented people and has a tradition of studiousness.

He expressed his hope that the local people would uphold their fine tradition in order to educate subsequent generations to become competent people who will make intellectual contributions to the country.

Later he visited a kindergarten in Duc Tho town to extend his best wishes to the school teachers and retired teacher Bui Than, who was awarded the People’s Teacher title for devoting nearly 70 years to the educational cause.
