Students nationwide begin new academic year

NDO – Over 22 million students around the country participated in opening ceremonies on September 5 to begin the new 2017-2018 school year.

Trung Vuong Secondary School in Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, began the new academic year today under the presence of President Tran Dai Quang as well as Politburo member and Secretary of Hanoi municipal Party Committee.

Sharing the joy of entering the new school year with teachers and students at the school, the President highly valued the achievements of the educational sector in the last academic year, with Trung Vuong school contributing to these achievements. He asked the school to continue upholding the tradition to improve the quality of management, teaching and studying in the near future.

The governments at all levels need to pay great attention to creating favourable conditions for teachers and students, particularly those living in difficult circumstances and the families of revolutionary contributors, added the State leader.

At the ceremony, President Quang beat the drum to officially begin the 2017-2018 school year.

On the same day, Chairwoman of National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended a celebration of the new school year at Le Ngoc Han Secondary School in My Tho city, Tien Giang province.

Speaking at the event, the NA Chairwoman spoke highly of the achievements that the school has gained over the past few years, as well as pointing out the limitations that need to be removed in order to develop the education and training cause in the new school year.

She urged the Tien Giang educational sector in general, and Le Ngoc Han Secondary School in particular, to focus on implementing the Government’s programme on comprehensively renovating education and training for the 2016-2020 period, with a vision to 2030.

Congratulating the teachers and students at Vo Van Kiet High School in District 8, Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of new school year, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh officially launched the peak month for traffic safety for students.

He hoped that the school’s students would make greater efforts in studying to contribute to the country’s development in the near future. The Deputy PM asked the Ho Chi Minh City’s authorities, particularly District 8, to pay more attention to investing in the infrastructure and equipment for the school.

Also this morning, Politburo member and Deputy PM Vuong Dinh Hue joined the ceremony to start the 2017-2018 school year at the High School for Gifted Students - University of Natural Sciences under the Hanoi National University. The Deputy PM presented flowers to teachers and students at the school as well as gave awards to five students who gained outstanding achievements at the 2017 International Olympiads.

Earlier on September 4, Nguyen Van Chinh Secondary School held a ceremony to begin the new academic year and receive the decision to name the school. The school had the old name of Phuoc Ly Secondary School. The event was attended by former President Truong Tan Sang and Deputy PM Truong Hoa Binh.
