NDO - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam (MONRE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea of Italy (MEPLS) on June 5 in Hanoi to agree cooperation between the two ministries.

This document is a prerequisite for the two ministries to promote relations in order to enhance technical cooperation on environmental protection and management, land and marine management, and climate change response.

At the signing ceremony, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Le Cong Thanh, highly appreciated the environmental protection management of the MEPLS as well as the results of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in recent years.

The MONRE wished to cooperate and learn from Italy's experiences in the field of climate change response, he noted.

The Deputy Minister also proposed that Italy consider supporting Vietnam in developing a policy on assessing the impacts of climate change and natural disasters on the community and the efficacy of response measures, while coordinating with the MONRE to effectively implement the MoU in the area of climate change, and build and train resources in the use of the geographic information system (GIS) for strategic environmental assessments and other specialised areas.

For his part, Francesco La Camera, Director General for Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate under the MEPLS said that Italy is ready to cooperate with the MONRE in the fields of climate change response, waste management, hydro-meteorology, and others.
